Calling All Climate Champions: Meet Cormac, Northwest Climate Ambassador Regional Manager

In a recent episode of the Coffee & Geography Podcast, I sat down with Cormac Lawler, the dynamic new Regional Hub Manager for the Climate Ambassadors scheme in the Northwest of England. A self-proclaimed “sociable introvert” with a passion for community and the environment, Cormac is the perfect person to lead this important initiative.

Originally from Ireland, Cormac has made Manchester and the Northwest his home for the past two decades. His diverse experiences, including work in Central America and Spain, have given him a unique perspective on the interconnectedness of communities and the urgency of climate action.

What are the Climate Ambassadors?

The Climate Ambassadors scheme is an nation-wide initiative designed to empower individuals, organisations, charities and communities to support education settings to take action on climate change and develop their Climate Action Plans. As the Northwest Regional Hub Manager, Cormac’s role is to build bridges, fostering collaboration and amplifying existing efforts to create a more sustainable future.

Building a Network for Change

Cormac is excited about the potential of the Climate Ambassadors scheme to catalyze change in the Northwest. He sees the region’s strong community spirit and existing initiatives, such as Manchester City Council’s Carbon Literacy training and the Green Schools network, as a solid foundation for further action.

A Call to Action

Whether you’re a seasoned climate activist or just starting to explore ways to make a difference in the Northwest of England, Cormac and the Climate Ambassadors Regional team based at Manchester Met University are here to support you. They offer resources, training, and a network of like-minded individuals who share your passion for a more sustainable future.
