Learning From Malawi

We all have experiences in our lives that change our mentality and perspective – for better or worse. Some of these experiences even change who we are, to some extent.

Six years ago this month I was lucky enough to travel to Malawi as part of the Norwich-Dedza Partnership. That experience changed me and my perspective about the ‘poor’, I already knew that African nations, especially those ranked lowest in human development were mis-represented by the media and even through the use of statistics. But seeing and experiencing things through my own eyes did more than reading books and hearing from third-parties ever could.

Next month (June 2019), as part of this year’s Norwich-Dedza Partnership exchange teachers from Malawi will be visiting the UK. So in celebration and preparation for that, I will be re-blogging the thoughts I made during my visit to Malawi in 2013.
